Joe Marver, the founder of Spirit Halloween, revealed that he initially tried to sell the business to Spencer's Gifts in 1998 but they declined. However, a year later they changed their minds and Marver agreed to the deal. He also explained that running a seasonal business like Spirit Halloween is not as simple as it seems, as it involves purchasing merchandise, finding locations, and setting up and breaking down the stores. Despite the seasonal nature, online sales for costumes, makeup, masks, and parties keep the business busy year-round.
