Frieze Los Angeles attracted some Bay Area dealers who traveled hundreds of miles south for the fair, showcasing impressive programs and selling out their stands. Despite the closure of mega-galleries like Pace and Gagosian in the Bay Area, local dealers highlight the tight-knit art community, passionate collectors, and countercultural history that contribute to a thriving art scene, albeit with a less developed ecosystem. The success stories include pt.2 Gallery from Oakland, which sold out its stand with works by Oakland-based artist Muzae Sesay, and Anthony Meier's space, which showcased sculptures made from reclaimed materials native to the Bay Area.
