Some Western politicians have been tirelessly promoting the "overcapacity" of Chinese electric vehicles, in an attempt to thwart their global rise. However, isn't the real excess the increasingly intense trade protectionism in the West?
On the one hand, data show that the main market for Chinese new energy vehicles (NEVs) is domestic. In 2023, China exported 1.203 million NEVs, accounting for only 13 percent of total NEV sales.
另一方面,中国新能源汽车在海外市场受欢迎,并不是因为价格低,而是因为质量优,性价比高。很多电动汽车的海外售价比国内价格高,但仍受国外消费者的欢迎。
On the other hand, the popularity of Chinese NEVs in overseas markets is not due to low prices, but rather their high quality and good value for money. Many electric vehicles are sold at higher prices overseas than domestically, and yet they remain popular with overseas consumers.
其次,对于产能是否过剩的判断,一方面,要立足新能源汽车产业发展阶段;另一方面,要从全球市场需求和未来发展潜力来看,要动态地看、理性地看。
As for whether there is overcapacity, this should be assessed based on the development stage of the NEV industry and global market demand and future growth potential.
国际能源署等多家国际机构都预测,未来十年,全球新能源汽车市场规模将持续快速扩大,远超中国和全球新能源汽车现有产能。
According to the International Energy Agency and other international organizations, the global NEV market is expected to expand rapidly over the next decade, far exceeding the current global production capacity.
一些国家炒作“产能过剩论”,主要还是想以“产能过剩”为借口,出台一些贸易保护主义举措。

世界各国应该携手为新能源汽车产业创造一个开放、公平的市场环境。
