#英语学习#与选举有关的词汇:Poll

11月前

#English Study# Vocabulary of Election: Poll.  Poll means a sample or collection of opinions on a topic taken from a group of people for the purpose of analysis and prediction. It also refers to the place where people go to vote. In Middle English, the word “poll” meant “head”, suggesting that people measured a collective opinion by counting heads, or individuals present at a gathering. “Poll”gradually came into its current meaning sometime in the 17th century.

The word can also function as a verb, as in “Let’s poll everyone and see what they think.” Polls are also used to get a sense of how an electorate might vote, although we can never be sure how well any poll will predict accurate results. Would you ever post a poll on your social media account? What would you poll your friends about?

#英语学习# 与选举有关的词汇: Poll (民意调查/投票/投票站)。“Poll”指的是就某一主题从一群人中进行抽样或收集意见,用于分析和预测。它也可以指人们去投票的地方。在中世纪英语中,"Poll "一词指的是 "Head(人头数)",表示人们通过统计人数或参加集会的个人来衡量集体意见。17 世纪时,"Poll "逐渐演变成为现在的意思。

该词还可以用作动词,例句:"Let’s poll everyone and see what they think.”(我们让大家来投票,看看他们是怎么想的。) 民意调查也被用来了解选民的投票意向,尽管我们永远无法确定民调在多大程度上能准确预测结果。你会在自己的社交媒体账户上发起投票吗?你会就什么问题让你的朋友们来投票?
