Joe Biden is attempting to recruit Taylor Swift as an influencer for his presidential campaign to boost his ailing poll ratings before the upcoming US election.
launch a campaign against the culture of overtime
Domestic brands have launched a wave of promotional campaigns.
the campaign for parliamentary reform
an anti-smoking campaign
She finally won the legal battle for compensation.
the endless battle between man and nature
the battle/struggle between good and evil
a legal struggle for compensation
a struggle of wills/wits
4)drive
the drive for greater efficiency
a drive to reduce energy consumption
Workers won their fight to stop compulsory redundancies.
回到文中来:boost his ailing poll ratings
She looked after her ailing father.
the ailing economy
the ailing car industry
the upcoming US election
1)be coming up
With Christmas coming up, we didn’t have much spare money.
2)be in sight
A solution to the problem now seems in sight.
3)be around the corner
In life, you never quite know what’s around the corner.
4)be in the offing
According to the company, these deals had been in the offing for some time.
5)imminent
Soon it became clear to everyone that war was imminent.
6)forthcoming
The matter will be discussed at the forthcoming general meeting.
The president’s campaign believes the pop star, 34, could restore his support among young voters and is pushing her to endorse him on social media.
restore his support 是对上文 boost his ailing poll ratings 的同义替换。
Farmers threw eggs and stones at the European Parliament on Thursday, starting fires near the building and setting off fireworks amid protests to press a summit of European Union leaders to do more to help them with taxes and rising costs.
endorse 本义是 to say publicly that you support a person “赞同,支持”,在广告活动中可以翻译成“宣传,代言,背书”。
I proudly endorse his candidacy for president.
(one's candidacy for...
I'm... I'm humbled by your endorsement.
As the 2024 presidential approaches, President Joe Biden is hoping to clinch a very high-profile endorsement: Taylor Swift.
From my perspective, there is no way I can endorse the opinion that rich countries should cease the spending on armament and channel these funds towards supporting residents in impoverished countries.
Swift, who was named Time’s Person of the Year and Billboard Magazine’s Greatest Pop Star of 2023, is enjoying unrivalled press coverage in the United States with her sell-out Eras tour and new relationship with Travis Kelce, a prominent American football player.
Swift is enjoying unrivalled press coverage in the United States
这里的 press 是名词,指 reports in newspapers and on radio and television “新闻报道、舆论”,看两个例句:
The band has received good press coverage.
To judge from the press, the concert was a great success.
The college's facilities rival those of Harvard and Yale.
Google is inaccessible in China. That leaves Baidu as the unrivalled leader in Chinese search. Slowing advertising revenues, however, are now taking it down a different road.
Swift is enjoying unrivalled press coverage in the United States
句中主语 Swift 后面跟了个定语从句,介绍 Swift 的成就:who was named Time’s Person of the Year and Billboard Magazine’s Greatest Pop Star of 2023
Time’s Person of the Year 和 Billboard Magazine’s Greatest Pop Star of 2023 分别是两个杂志的奖项。
主干后面跟了个with结构,解释了 unrivalled press coverage 的原因:with her sell-out Eras tour and new relationship with Travis Kelce, a prominent American football player
sell-out 是名词,意思是 a play, concert, etc. for which all the tickets have been sold “满座的演出(或比赛等)”,如:
Next week's final looks like being a sell-out.
a sell-out tour
Eras tour
The singer endorsed Mr Biden and Kamala Harris in 2020 and is believed to be a Democrat, publicly supporting LGBTQ rights and access to abortion. In 2018, she supported Democratic candidates in the congressional race in Tennessee, where she lived as a teenager.
access to abortion 指“堕胎权”。
Joe Biden is attempting to recruit Taylor Swift as an influencer for his presidential campaign to boost his ailing poll ratings before the upcoming US election.
The president’s campaign believes the pop star, 34, could restore his support among young voters and is pushing her to endorse him on social media.
