Topic: Should I Teach Grammar or Vocabulary?” The Importance of Phraseological Competence for Fluency
Part of fluency in both writing and speaking relates to fixed or semi-fixed phrases that are used in specific contexts. In fact, about 40% of the language we use in standard English consists of formulaic language that is used repeatedly. L1 speakers of English use these naturally but for EFL students these phrases are often underused, overused, misused, or go completely unnoticed. This workshop will first discuss the research behind a relatively new approach to teaching English that focuses not on individual words or grammar, but rather on phrases, followed by activities that will help students sound more fluent in both their speaking and writing.
Date: April 11th, 2024
Time: 2:00 to 3:30 P.M.
