Esteemed English Language Fellow alumni, Kelly Donovan, Ian Baecht and Christopher Tebbe, will lead four insightful and interactive workshops from 9 am to 5 pm, providing practical strategies for effective English teaching. Christopher Tebbe is a Senior Lecturer at Duke Kunshan University in Jiangsu. He has more than 20 years of language teaching experience; Chris has taught German in the United States and China and English in the U.S., Austria, Japan, and China. In addition to receiving a Master’s degree in German from the University of Cincinnati, he has earned a Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Teachers College, Columbia University. Chris served as a U.S. Department of State English Language Fellow and Specialist in Chengdu and Beijing from 2012 to 2016.
Ian Baecht worked as an English instructor at the secondary and tertiary level in Japan and California for a decade, before moving to Chongqing in 2017 as an English Language Fellow for the U.S. State Department. As a Fellow, he had the opportunity to lead teacher training workshops across China as well as in the Philippines, Thailand, and Mongolia. He has been teaching ESL, the History of English, and Academic Writing at Wenzhou Kean University since 2019.
Kelly Donovan has spent much of her professional and academic career in China. She joined the NYU Shanghai faculty in 2020 as a Lecturer of English for Academic Purposes. She is currently teaching content-based courses entitled: “The Science of Friendship” and “The Final Boss: Defeating Social Issues in Gaming.” Her research interests include language & identity, teacher training & supervision, and Ludic Language Pedagogy. Prior to joining NYU Shanghai, Ms. Donovan was a participant in the English Language Fellow Program and Virtual English Language Fellow Program, both U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs exchange programs. She was hosted by Qufu Normal University (QFNU) in Shandong, China from 2018 to 2020.

While portable electronic devices, such as mobile phones, iPads and other tablets, and smartwatches are permitted, guests may not bring laptop computers to Beijing American Center programs. No large bags will be allowed for this event.
